Elon Musk is one of the most genius people of our time, there is no denying it. He is the mind behind Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, Hyperloop, and so many other life-changing ideas. Elon Musk founded OpenAI, a company focused on the development of artificial intelligence, with Sam Altman and others.

But soon after some time, Elon parted ways with the company over some ideological differences. Elon has a very different idea for AI and OpenAI wanted to venture into a different segment. So, what was the reason why his exit, and why he thinks OpenAI is dangerous?

Why Did Elon Musk Leave OpenAI?

Elon Musk has always been vocal about the negative aspect of artificial intelligence. He is a firm supporter of the idea that a sentient AI can be very dangerous for humanity. Keeping this in mind, he wanted to create an AI platform that was neutral and more inclined toward humanity.

This is why he founded OpenAI with four other founders. At the start, the idea was to create an AI that can help humans in their creative work or daily life, but humans should be in control always. That’s why the parent firm of OpenAI is a not-for-profit trust.

But the GPT-2 of OpenAI is capable of writing text that is almost like that created by humans. And this is where the moral line comes because an AI capable of impersonating Humans can have so many negative applications, like generating fake news, and fake social media interactions. On top of that, the greedy use of this tool can put so many good and hard-working writers out of the job.

Elon Musk is one of the main voices against the overuse of AI. He once said, “I don’t support adding AI into everything, it’s not right, and I will not be the tool to destroy the world.” Recently, Elon Musk responded to a query on Twitter and clarified his stance on OpenAI and if he is in any kind of relationship with the company.

“To clarify, I’ve not been involved closely with OpenAI for over a year & don’t have mgmt or board oversight,” Elon clarified in response to a tweet calling GPT-2 dangerous.

He further added, “I had to focus on solving a painfully large number of engineering & manufacturing problems at Tesla (especially) & SpaceX. Also, Tesla was competing for some of same people as OpenAI & I didn’t agree with some of what OpenAI team wanted to do. Add that all up & it was just better to part ways on good terms.”

Is AI Really Dangerous For Humankind?

There is an ongoing debate about the potential dangers of AI, but it is generally agreed that the development and deployment of AI should be guided by ethical principles and that steps should be taken to mitigate any negative impacts.

Some experts believe that AI has the potential to greatly benefit humanity in areas such as healthcare, education, and transportation, while others have raised concerns about the possibility of AI being used for harmful purposes, such as in autonomous weapons, or to perpetuate bias and discrimination.

It is important to continue researching and monitoring the development of AI to ensure that its benefits are maximized and its potential downsides are minimized.
